The Foo Fighters, the American rock group founded by Nirvana’s Dave Grohl, have released a new track titled “Show Me How.” It marks the third single from the forthcoming album But Here We Are, which is slated to arrive on June 2.

The lyric video for Show Me How is available on the band’s official YouTube channel, giving fans a visual companion to the new music.

But Here We Are stands as the first Foo Fighters album created after the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins. While Grohl handled drums on the early efforts Foo Fighters and The Colour and the Shape, the new project moves forward without Hawkins, following a period of unparalleled change for the band. Prior to the album’s release, the group introduced the opening track Recovered and followed with the second single Under You, both serving as a preview of the band’s direction during this era.

Comprised of ten songs in total, But Here We Are is described through a press release as an honest response to the experiences the members endured over the past year. That framing underscores a record that processes loss, resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose, while continuing to honor the band’s legacy and its evolving sound.

Taylor Hawkins passed away on March 25, 2022, while the Foo Fighters were on tour in South America. Post-mortem findings noted the presence of opioids, antidepressants, and psychotropic substances in Hawkins’s system. He was 50 years old, leaving behind a wife and three children.

In December 2022, the group announced it would press on without Hawkins. By the end of May 2023, Josh Freese joined as the drummer, bringing a history of collaboration with Devo, Guns N’ Roses, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, and singer Sting to the fold. The transition was widely discussed as the band navigated the blend of grief and artistic renewal that defines this period.

Reports from Stereogum indicate that on May 24, the Foo Fighters performed with the new lineup during a tour kickoff, presenting several new songs in concert. The set list reportedly included unreleased tracks such as Nothing At All and But Here. We. The live responses suggested the band’s confidence in their new direction and their ability to translate studio ideas into a live experience.
