French-Algerian filmmaker Yann Demange, known for his work on Lovecraft Country and the crime drama White Boy Rick, has been tapped to direct the upcoming Marvel feature Blade, according to Deadline and unnamed sources.
In another update from Deadline, Marvel has reportedly secured a new screenwriter for the project, with Michael Starrbury set to adapt, following his work on Ava DuVernay’s When They See Us.
The film is scheduled to resume its pre-release phase on September 6, 2024, signaling a renewed push for the long awaited reboot of the Blade saga.
Earlier notes from Hollywood insider Jeff Snyder suggested Mahershala Ali would star as Blade, the iconic vampire hunter. He reportedly expressed frustration with the production trajectory, with some claiming Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had assumed too heavy a workload for the actor. Previously, Bassam Tariq stepped away from the directing chair due to scheduling disputes. Reports also indicate Marvel plans a darker tonal shift for Blade compared with past entries from the studio.
