An American director and screenwriter named Lauryn Scafaria will helm a forthcoming film about the Bee Gees, the British-Australian music group. The project currently has no title. A major trade publication reports that Scafaria will take over duties from John Carney to direct this comedy drama adaptation, with Paramount handling distribution.
The move comes after Carney stepped away from the project due to scheduling conflicts. The final screenplay is credited to John Logan, renowned for work on Gladiator and The Keeper of Time, and one of the film’s producers will be Barry Gibb, the surviving member of the Bee Gees.
Audience familiarity with the Bee Gees spans decades. The group rose to prominence in the 1960s and 1970s with enduring hits such as How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, Too Much Heaven, Nights on Broadway, and the iconic Stayin’ Alive. Their catalog has sold more than 220 million records worldwide, underscoring their lasting influence on popular music.
Lauryn Scafaria has built a reputation for directing The Strippers and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. She has also contributed to the television series New Girl and the film Descendants, bringing a blend of sharp humor and human drama to contemporary storytelling.
The industry continues to push forward with bold projects across genres. Recent news reveals that M Night Shyamalan’s thriller Knock at the Door has been rated R for profanity and violence, signaling the director’s willingness to push boundaries in modern suspense cinema.
