Arly Jones, an illustrator and filmmaker from Alicante, will lead a workshop this Friday at the Elche Municipal Library Pedro Ibarra. The session will focus on the graphic resources that have shaped his distinctive style, drawing from his experiences with comic book masters and his own creative journey. Attendees will get to participate in a hands on segment that complements the ongoing exhibition, bridging from the buffet to the library and exploring the comics of Alberto Miralles housed in the library’s Old Chapel Room of the Third Franciscan Order.
The exhibition, which bears the playwright’s legacy, will welcome visitors through 18 June. Alberto Miralles and his family donated an expansive collection of comics to the Elche Municipal Libraries, enriching the city’s cultural archive. Jones’s workshop is free, and no registration is required, inviting a broad audience to engage with the art and its storytelling potential.
Arly Jones—who serves as assistant director at Sami Natsheh Animation Studio and contributed to the animated short Colors, which earned a Goya Award nomination—has long nurtured a deep love for comics. His work frequently reflects this passion, blending European and American influences. He describes his approach as borrowing and repurposing visual ideas, a practice evident across his commercial illustration work and the set design for animated features.
Jones has built a varied career in the comics world, collaborating with leading publishers such as Norma and Edicions de Ponent. His creative reach extends to animation projects with notable Spanish authors including Miguel Calatayud, Daniel Torres, and Javier Mariscal. These collaborations inform his method, where visual quotation and reinterpretation become tools for storytelling across media.
