Antonio Najarro, a renowned choreographer and dancer, brings a Spanish dance showcase to Alicante this Saturday. The performance takes place at the Fundación Mediterráneo Cultural Hall, located at Att. Dr. Gadea, 1, starting at 20:00. It is part of the Mediterranean in Dance series, a program of demonstrations and conferences that has illuminated the world of dance since January.
The appearance of Spanish Dance is an educational demonstration where Najarro will share the full spectrum of this art as it is practiced in our country. The night will illuminate how a choreographer prepares a piece and how artistic and technical growth unfolds on stage. On stage with Najarro will be Tania Martín and Carlos Romero, principal dancers of his company, who will perform fragments of the show breath. The musical score comes from Argentine composer and guitarist Fernando Egozcue, with costumes designed by Teresa Helbig, Oteyza, and Najarro himself, bringing the production to life with a distinctly regional influence.
A Q&A session will follow the show, inviting attendees to engage, clarify questions about Spanish dance, and explore the artistic process behind the performances.
Antonio Najarro, born in Madrid in 1975, is a highly regarded dancer and choreographer with international recognition. He led the Spanish National Ballet as artistic director from 2011 to 2019 and now directs his own company, continuing a dynamic career in contemporary and traditional form.
The Mediterranean dance cycle will conclude on June 11 with CMDANZA, the Murcian Dance Company, presenting a powerful flamenco ballet inspired by a work by Federico García Lorca, titled great shoemaker. In the first half of 2022, the program showcased leading Spanish dance proposals to audiences in Alicante and Murcia, featuring a dozen artists such as Joaquin de Luz, Michelangelo Bern, and the Barcelona Ballet, each presenting their artistic and educational projects.
