Alicante welcomed the sixth edition of the International Classical Theater Festival, FITCA, held from September 13 to 25. About five thousand participants attended as six main productions shared the stage with four co-productions from the Mérida Festival. The Alicante City Council Culture Department and festival management highlight that this cycle reinforces FITCA’s status as a premier national celebration of classical theater each year.

The Main Theater showcased six productions, complemented by four Mérida Festival co-productions. The performances, including Sapfo and Wizard, earned long, standing ovations from a packed audience. Miles Gloriosus, directed by Carlos Sobera, captivated the crowd that filled the venue as the cast performed and joined in song with the performers.

Beyond the Alicante Coliseum, the festival broadened its appeal to families through activities at Pozos de Garrigós and the water museum. Two puppet shows, Elizabeth’s Journey, presented at Espacio Séneca, reached full capacity, illustrating the festival’s appeal across generations.

The city’s Culture Mayor stressed that FITCA continually surpasses prior editions and now stands as a central hub for classical theater in Alicante. He noted that world-class works are staged both at the principal venue and in other municipal spaces, with ongoing plans for next year’s festival using the same dates to capitalize on the strong reception in recent seasons.

The Artistic Director of the Festival praised the sixth edition for its artistic quality and the audience response, and she confirmed that preparations for the seventh edition are already underway. The aim is to introduce more innovations and standout productions to ensure FITCA remains a leading reference for performing arts across Spain.

Each year FITCA welcomes a diverse audience and gradually expands into new municipal spaces to present outstanding productions and high-quality landscape programs on the national stage. The Cultural Council Member expressed gratitude to all residents for their participation, underscoring that broad community involvement is essential for future editions. Various institutions collaborate with the Alicante City Council to bring the festival to life and extend its cultural impact.
