Alicante University Light Writers Association Presents a Major Photography Seminar Series
The Alicante University Light Writers Association (ELUA) and the University City of Alicante Headquarters (San Fernando, 40) continue their thirteenth edition with a compelling infographics seminar focused on photography culture. A renowned photojournalist will join the event next Monday, with Rafael Arjones in attendance. Also on the program, the BİLGİ Photography team brings a thoughtful session led by a speaker who has spent three decades working behind the lens, sharing insights about what keeps a photojournalist engaged for thirty years without losing curiosity. The discussion will also explore social whistleblowing as a professional challenge, highlighting the role of photography in accountability and transparency.
Rafa Arjones, born in Alicante in 1969, will reflect on his long career and the enduring value of imagery in the media. Over more than thirty years, he has published thousands of photographs across daily newspapers and produced numerous reports spanning politics, events, sports, and society at large. His work demonstrates how a single frame can carry multiple layers of meaning and influence public perception.
“The current saturation of images should not blind graphic printing professionals to the need for originality and voice,” Arjones notes. “We must push beyond the obvious and become seekers and authors of our own stories, telling them in fresh, distinctive ways. Only then can audiences connect with images that retain personality and identity, rather than sliding into a bland pile of pictures.” He emphasizes a continuous search for meaningful stories, with a focus on social accountability as a guiding thread in his reporting.
He adds that the impact of photojournalism and video reporting is evolving with new audiovisual narratives. “Let me report more effectively,” he says. Arjones is a graduate in Photography and Visual Arts from Miguel Hernández University and is currently in the fourth year of the Audiovisual Communications degree at the same institution. This blend of practical experience and academic study informs his approach to storytelling through images and clips that complement each other.
The event has recognized Arjones with multiple honors, including prizes for photoprinting from Fundación La Caixa in the Snapshots category, a Photo of the Year distinction in a leading magazine, and a photo award from La Vanguardia. He has also contributed to Fnac Talent and authored several documentary reports. In 2021, he expanded his creative reach by directing and writing the short film Damn Spring, a work inspired by a real event in Alicante and addressing issues around elder abandonment during the epidemic.

Infographics 2023 concludes on Tuesday, June 6, with a closing conference presented by the cycle organizer, Javier Serrano. The program continues to explore photography, poetry, and the synergy between image and verse. Serrano remarks that in his photographic work, image and poetry often intertwine, creating an unfinished symphony and inviting encounters on opposite sides of the frame. The seminars promise a balance of technical craft, narrative depth, and artistic expression, offering attendees practical guidance and inspiration for future projects.
