Two prominent acts will take the stage on Thursday, November 2, as part of a fresh session of M Fest, a music program organized by the Mediterraneo Foundation. This Alicante event unfolds in the Alicante Class, located on Avda. Doctor Gadea, 1, with the double concert starting at 20.30. Tickets are available at the box office or through the event site.

M Fest represents a new approach to showcasing music. The foundation connects groups within Alicante with national and international artists, moving away from the traditional star system and embracing a simple idea: two high‑quality bands sharing the Aula de Alicante stage, equal in stature and energy.

More than a festival, M Fest is a movement led by the Mediterraneo Foundation to bring artists of global standing together with local talents, expanding audiences and supporting the professional growth of Alicante’s music scene.

A musical journey

On November 2, the Alicante trio FlyingPigMatanza will deliver emotive melodies and set the stage for American artist Helado Negro, who is expected to offer a bilingual journey that fuses influences from his Ecuadorian heritage with avant‑pop with a political edge.

Roberto Carlos Lange, known as Black Ice Cream, hails from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, born in 1980. He is an American musician and has earned recognition including a 2019 United States Artists Foundation Fellowship in music and a Contemporary Arts Foundation Artist Endowment Award the same year. His career reflects a cross‑cultural lens and a blend of languages in his lyrics.

As a South Florida native with Ecuadorian roots and a Brooklyn residence, Lange draws on diverse experiences, weaving English and Spanish into his songs and highlighting bilingual storytelling as a core element of his artistry.

Helado Negro’s sound is often described as lyrical, intimate, and socially engaged avant‑pop. Lange’s approach to art songs is exploratory, infusing adventurous musical impulses into accessible pop textures that resonate with a wide audience.

Helado Negro released the 2019 album That’s How You Laugh, which Pitchfork highlighted with a high score and labeled Best New Music. A 2021 release titled Away showcased the artist’s continued critical and popular appeal, underscoring the project’s evolving creative voice.

FlyingPigMatanza is known for unpretentious, straightforward pop with eighties influences in mind. The Alicante band is defined by its clear, accessible sound and a willingness to experiment within a familiar framework.

FlyingPigMatanza formed around the collaboration of Marcos Martínez, Hector Bardisa, and Miguel C. de la Fuente. They brought their self‑titled debut EP to life, presenting a cohesive voice that blends vocal clarity with bright instrumental textures. The band’s early work suggests a direction marked by concise pop hooks and a nod to retro influences that fans of the era still cherish.

Their first record, Beautiful Moments, was captured in an intimate setting that emphasizes the band’s original intent: direct, unadorned pop that leans into eighties sensibilities while staying firmly rooted in contemporary soundscapes.

A bridge between established and emerging artists

Luis Boyer, president of the Mediterraneo Foundation, highlights the organization’s commitment to Alicante’s music scene. Our mission, he notes, is to enrich the city’s cultural offerings, captivate younger audiences, and deepen ties with viewers who already know the music well. Through M Fest, the foundation aims to bridge emerging artists with broader audiences, with a special focus on the Alicante province.

Since its inception, the Mediterraneo Foundation has worked to turn M Fest into a durable platform that showcases the province’s musical diversity. The festival spans a range from folk to hip hop, reflecting the Terreta region’s rich soundscape. The event is coordinated by Alejandro Tévar and Miguel Carratalá, who maintain the concert series format and center it around three key dates, promising an immersive and memorable experience for attendees.
