Alicante International Summer Rice Festival Returns

The International Summer Rice Festival Alicante returns with a well-planned program that promises a rich lineup of performances. The eleven edition of this musical gathering began on Sunday, July 3 and concludes on Thursday, July 7, with a schedule designed to entertain audiences across multiple venues. The opening performance features Ensemble Brass Academy Alicante, directed by Rudy Korp, on the evening of the 3rd in Plaza del Ayuntamiento at 21:00. Later, the same plaza hosts further concerts on consecutive days, with Moggio on the 4th, Smurfson on the 5th, and Spanish Horns on the 6th, all at the same time to maintain a consistent rhythm throughout the festival.

For the finale, the festival moves to Rabasa Mansion’s gardens. The Austrian Brass Sound ensemble will perform there at 19:00 with a second show at 21:00, rounding out the festival’s concert series on Thursday. The International Summer Rice, organized by Rice Academy Alicante and the City Council in cooperation with the Provincial Council, stands on two pillars: an international wind music course and a festival featuring wind instrument performances. The course welcomes participants from many nations, with Rudi Korp, Nury Guarnaschelli, and a diverse group of musicians guiding students from China, Austria, Germany, France, Mexico, Argentina, Singapore, Italy, the United States, and Spain in its various program tracks. Throughout the week, the event also showcases a range of instrument exhibits from major European brands. Attendees can explore offerings from Alexander Mainz, Mack mouthpieces, Windhager mouthpieces, JK mouthpieces, RGC mutes, and other well-known manufacturers. These displays provide insights into instrument models and accessory options, helping players and enthusiasts choose gear that best fits their needs. [citation needed]

In addition to performances and exhibits, a tool mechanic segment led by Wilmer Ramirez, a renowned luthier, will be available. He will share practical tips on instrument maintenance and care, offering a hands-on talk to students about upkeep and best practices to extend instrument life. This component adds a practical, educational layer to the festival, making it valuable for both aspiring players and seasoned professionals. [citation needed]

Admission to the concert events is free, with seating or entry secured through prior invitation reservations. The festival’s inclusive approach aims to welcome a broad audience of locals and visitors, fostering a lively cultural exchange centered on wind and brass music.
