The Alicante International Film Festival teams up with the University of Alicante to create a new prize. Twenty graduates from the Master in Dramatic Arts, directed by John Sanderson, will have the chance to participate as jurors and award the Master Prize in Dramatic Arts at the University of Alicante for Spanish short films. The prize carries no cash value and will be presented at the closing gala on May 25 at the Principal Theatre in Alicante.

The jury for the Master Prize in Dramatic Arts at the University of Alicante will select the winning title for this fresh section. In this way, soon-to-be graduates will get close to one of the most vibrant and stimulating segments of the festival’s program.

The University has long collaborated with the festival, and the festival with the University, because culture and knowledge should go hand in hand. This new collaboration will give students a broader view and a window into the backstage of a festival as prestigious as the Alicante International Film Festival. It also offers entrants a chance to receive an award from professionals who are new to the scene, bringing a fresh perspective and new ideas, as explained by Vicente Seva, director of the Alicante film festival, which starts on May 18.

It is an honor for the festival to count on our graduates as jurors for the short film category. The practical training they received as actors at the University of Alicante, guided by highly regarded cinema professionals, along with their subsequent experience, equips the performers to contribute a contemporary view that can recognize the merit of competing productions, according to John Sanderson, the master’s academic director.

Master in Dramatic Arts at UA

launched in 2013 and features professors of notable standing including directors Mariano Barroso and Imanol Uribe, playwright Juan Luis Mira, actors Nuria Gallardo, Rosana Pastor and Alejandro Tous, and composer Manuel Ramos, among others. It stands as the first comprehensive actor training program officially offered in Alicante.

The master’s goal is to develop interpretive training for application across multiple professional fields. The primary focus leans toward stage performance and the audiovisual medium, while also embracing other career paths connected to communication in its many professional forms.

Additionally, the program includes the option of a continuing education course in Applied Dramatic Arts for those who do not hold a university degree and wish to study the content of the Expert Title.
