This Circus of the Sun is set to pay a daily maximum of 134 euros for the occupation of 19,070 square meters of municipal land in the San Juan Beach area, where facilities will be built. The schedule calls for performances from mid-July to late August, with the site prepared and cleared for use along this window.
The Alicante Town Hall Board of Directors plans to confirm a state permit for the company Caia Luxembourg, authorizing a circus show on a site that once offered caravan parking. Under the board’s agreement, the total rent for the 82 days of occupation amounts to 10,998 euros, payable either in cash or in kind.
Alicante grants Cirque du Soleil a plot of land with payment in cash or in kind for 6% of its cadastral value
The City Council aims to set a similar deadline for the following year, with exact dates to be clarified in due course by the authorized company. The contract obligates Cirque du Soleil to keep the entire allocated land in a safe, healthy, and aesthetically maintained state and to arrange liability insurance covering risks to people and property. At the end of the occupation, the plot is to be returned in the same condition as at the start. The site spans 19,070 square meters, fronts Costa Blanca Avenue, and is part of the existing city park in the PAU 4 and PAU 5 sectors.
The agreement allows Cirque du Soleil to use the space for public performances and related activities, including setup and testing of equipment, promotional events, and sponsor-related activities. The company may establish concessions for selling promotional items, snacks, and beverages, operate ticket booths, and provide sanitary facilities and staff offices and kitchens. The City Council reserves the right to dispose of the land for uses deemed appropriate by Cirque du Soleil, provided the allocation is temporary and authorized.
The contract term is four years from signing, with potential extensions every two years up to a total of four additional years.
Alicante loses its only caravan parking spot due to Cirque du Soleil
The City Council commits to distributing a number of premiere tickets and performance tickets and to collaborating in the show’s promotion through its own communication channels and existing advertising spaces. Cirque du Soleil’s obligation includes contributing to Alicante’s image as a city attractive for art and tourism, while acknowledging the city’s climate and tourist appeal as advantages for the tour. The agreement is framed as a mutual opportunity to showcase the artistic and professional depth of Cirque du Soleil while leveraging the city’s tourism potential.
Past Cirque du Soleil performances in Alicante have drawn sizeable audiences, and the operation is expected to impact the local economy through temporary employment for a broad group of workers, including artists and technicians, as well as contracts with local suppliers. The arrangement is presented as a way for Alicante to highlight its cultural offerings while the show visits the city, contributing to its standing as a destination for visitors and residents alike.
Historically, Cirque du Soleil ownership of performance sites in the Rabasa area is noted as part of its broader planning approach, aligning with events of international stature and the city’s effort to attract significant cultural productions.
