Alicante’s Espacio Seneca will host the Alicante Book Fair once more, marking the 53rd edition in May. The event previously occurred in different times over the years, with openings in early April and as recently as October.

The Ministry of Culture has outlined goals for this year that include increasing the presence of authors from Alicante and enriching the public schedule with engaging activities.

Kültür approved an extension of the programming, management, execution, coordination and dynamization services for the book fair. The continuation is set for another year with Makyre Eventos C2T SL, a Malaga company responsible for the fair since 2021. The contract values 28,919.00 euros including VAT and was formalized again on March 4, 2022.

Antonio Manresa, the area manager, stated that the success at Espacio Seneca in the last edition motivates a stronger public presence. He added that the team will keep working to secure the involvement of notable authors and, in line with commitments, ensure the participation of writers from Alicante.

It is noted that in the previous edition some participants voiced concerns about a day that overlapped with another event when a book fair opening took place on Paseo de Soto. Kültür assured that booths for second hand books would not open before the weekend.

More than 120 authors in 2022

In April of the previous year Plaza Seneca hosted the 52nd Alicante Book Fair. The event ran from April 1 to 10 and featured more than 120 authors focusing on historical novels as its central theme. The 2022 gathering included a mix of national authors and authors based in Alicante and its province, with well known figures such as Javier Pérez and Inés Martín making appearances.

In the coming days the fair will announce the main theme, the expected number of participants and the participating groups.

Alongside the planned programming, a slate of lectures, round tables and 27 children’s events will be hosted in Espacio Seneca. These activities will be supplemented by initiatives from various collectives and collaborators at the fair stands.

FLA maintains collaborations with the Juan Gil Albert Institute, the Institute of Catalan Studies, the University of Alicante and the Alicante Province Booksellers Association.
