Alicante Book Fair enters a new season with Makyre at the helm
The Malaga company Makyre is again chosen to manage the Alicante Book Fair, following an assessment by the Contract Board of the Alicante City Council. The board publicly announced the winning classification for the five submitted proposals, confirming that Makyre leads the list for the edition spread across 54 cycles.
If the successful bidder completes the required documentation before the final decision, this will mark the fourth consecutive year that Makyre has organized the event in Alicante. The firm first took charge in 2021 and after the 2022 award, the project was extended into 2023 as it stood as the sole bid.
The Contract Board evaluated several factors, including the content plan for the fair, the economic bid, and the overall score. Makyre secured the top position with a total of 96 points, ahead of Southern Merlin Group from Jaén (69.96), Amundsen Strategy and Communications from Valencia (58.66), Tower Bridge from Madrid (54.66), and And machinery from Alicante (51.85).
A shorter fair with less emphasis on local writers
The municipal tender for this year set the budget at 36,489 euros including VAT, with a net base of 34,485 euros, similar to the previous year. Makyre’s bid stands at 26,500 euros with VAT included, which is about 10,000 euros lower than the municipal offer. It is noted that in 2021 Makyre was the lowest bidder but also received the poorest technical assessment for its content; in 2022 the bid was 5,000 euros lower than the initial base of 34,485 euros.

The fair program proposed by Makyre features the involvement of media professionals in public screenings with literary prizes, and a spotlight on Alicante authors. A new element this year is a cultural dynamization in Seneca Square, with concerts, dances, and monologues, responding to attendee requests for a vibrant celebration at the Seneca Space next April. The fair duration has been shortened to five days, from Wednesday to Sunday, with dates to be announced soon.

The Cultural Council member has confirmed that the Alicante City Council will subsidize bookstore booths to encourage broader participation. The aim is to enrich the cultural experience during the Book Fair days and ensure a robust lineup that appeals to both devoted readers and newcomers alike.
Authorities emphasize that the Book Fair should become an essential event for literature lovers, offering readers a chance to explore a range of genres and meet authors who spark curiosity about reading in wider circles.
