“After the last concert of this tour at the WiZink Center in Madrid in October, the band will be on an indefinite hiatus. They have been twelve years of tremendous and wonderful intensity. We will miss you, but until that happens [el final de la banda] See you at concerts.” The people of Malaga will be able to say goodbye to them (or see you later) at the Metrovacesa drive-in cinema on October 20th. (This will be the first concert the venue will host).
The reason for the farewell is currently unknown. Neither of the protagonists gave details on whether they would try to restart their solo careers or quit music. Nor in this interview where the undisputed leader of the group, Mikel Izal, looks in the rearview mirror to remember this long decade of music.
Surely, at some point during this farewell tour, you felt the urge to say, “I better step back and we won’t finish.” What convinced you that quitting was the right decision?
Such a decision is not to be taken lightly, but obviously there will be a big change in our lives and like any big decision it always creates uncertainty, but instead of thinking about how beautiful the past was, it’s time to stop and look to the future. .
What are you most proud of what you have accomplished in this long decade of experience?
To make so many people happy. More than ever, our people are flooding us with messages now more than ever to let us know what our work means to them, and the truth is, it’s exciting to realize that your passion has created so much happiness in other people.
It’s hard to summarize what happened in the two moments, but I’ll ask you: The most glorious moment and the darkest moment of all time.
There have been so many bright moments that it would be absurd (and unfair) to blur them out by mentioning so few dark moments. In Sonoramas, Wizinks, festivals all over Spain, the little bars we were born and raised in, and the concerts of this farewell tour, we are left alone with smiles and tears of happiness from those who love us.
Would you change something Izal did during this time?
Nothing. Everything, good and orderly, served to bring many happy moments to us. Mistakes, accidents, painful moments also make you grow.
What would have to happen for the indefinite hiatus when the band would now end?
Nobody can predict the future. There are no plans of return and I can’t imagine the conditions that will create that return, life is taking you, your worries are changing, but you cannot predict these changes or the circumstances that caused them.
Izal, one of the bands that give the most concerts in our country, will now be time to get used to spending more time at home. Will she miss the road, or will she miss it more?
The road will still be there, and we can always return to it, albeit in another way.
The inevitable question: And now… what? Are there any home hobbies waiting for you?
We are passionate people, and we are so confident that each of us will develop these passions, no matter what, when this is over. Everyone will seek happiness in their own way.
