Polish broadcaster Polsat has ordered a remake of the Ukrainian sitcom Servant of the People, starring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Hollywood Reporter writes about it.
The main role in the project should be played by a young Polish actor Marcin Gitsnar. The plot will remain the same: an ordinary man unexpectedly wins the presidential election and begins to change the country for the better.
The original version of Servant of the People was broadcast on the Ukrainian TV channel 1+1 from 2015 to 2019. The same name – “Servant of the People” – was later given to the political party in which the lead actor, Vladimir Zelensky, was nominated for the presidential election in early 2019.
According to THR, “the events in neighboring Ukraine are of particular interest to Poland,” whose government was one of the first to support Zelensky and to condemn Russia’s actions. Poland also accepted the largest number of Ukrainian refugees among European countries. According to the Polish border service, on August 13, about 5.4 million people crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border after February 24.
