The house where the rock band AC/DC were founded in Australia was accidentally destroyed. This was reported by CNN.
The single-storey brick building was located at 4 Burley Street in Burwood (a suburb of Sydney). It was a center of attraction for AC/DC fans for many years, as brothers Angus and Malcolm Young spent their youth here and formed the band.
In March 2023, the celebrity’s former home was purchased by developer Burwood Square for $5.8 million, and in December 2024, the developer decided to demolish the property. The construction company said it learned about the cultural significance of the house after the demolition and apologized to its fans.
“Unfortunately, the historical connection to AC/DC could not be identified and we regret that the previous long-term owner did not share this important part of the home’s history with us,” said company CEO Leon Camita.
According to CNN, Burwood Square is now planning to build a 50-story tower on the site of the former home of AC/DC’s founders. The developer also promised to create a special area for fans of the rock band to hang out nearby.
CNN adds that Burwood Council carried out an inspection in 2015 to determine whether the house on Burley Street should be listed as a local heritage site. He “did not recommend” it because the band’s residency was too short.
