Cocentaina hosts the 1st International Conference of Baroque Art and the painter Paolo de Matteis

This event organized by Cocentaina City Hall In cooperation with University of Alicante, IVCR+i (Valencia Institute for Conservation, Restoration and Research) And Virgin of the Miracle of Pious Unity related to CocentainaIt promises to bring together experts and art lovers from all over Spain and Europe, with the aim of promoting the artistic and historical heritage of the region and the Neapolitan master.

This bequest, consisting of a series of canvases that have adorned the Monastery of the Virgen del Milagro since the late 17th century, represents one of the most outstanding sets of decorative baroque paintings in Spain.

The paintings were commissioned from De Matteis by Francisco de Benavides Dávila y Corella, Count of Cocentaina and viceroy of Naples. as a gesture uniting two geographically distant but culturally close regions.
