A series of remakes of the 1984 film The NeverEnding Story are in the works. How reports Variety, the book by German author Michael Ende, is being adapted to the cinema again.
See-Saw Films studio (“The Power of the Dog”) signed an agreement with the copyright owner of the work. The film adaptation will be produced by Iain Canning and Emile Sherman.
According to Variety, Ende’s heirs have been evaluating film adaptation offers from various studios and streaming services for the past few years.
In total, several films are planned to be released for theatrical release.
The Neverending Story book was published in Germany in 1979 and was translated into 45 languages. The story centers on a boy named Bastian with a rich imagination, who finds a magic book while running away from bullies and then must save the mysterious land of Fantasy, where dragons, giants and other mythical creatures live.
“This is a story that is timeless, timely and can be retold. The book is unusual in that you can return to it at different ages and find new meanings. We believe every generation deserves its own journey into Fantasy,” says Canning.
