“In the Web of Fear” (“Spider’s Web”)
The most atmospheric and underrated horror movie of 2023 is a chilling story about a boy named Peter who lives in a very strange house where someone lives within its walls. “In the Web of Fear” is as if made according to the textbook of the best horror producer of recent years, Mike Flanagan, the main role in the film is played by the charming Woody Norman, known for the drama “Camon Camon”. Joaquin Phoenix and his family are played wonderfully by Lizzy Caplan. (“Monstro”, “Sex Masters”) and Antony Starr (“Men”).

“Evil Dead Rise”
The fifth full-length installment of Sam Raimi’s cult series about the dead (living dead possessed by demons) became the most commercially successful of the entire series (apparently there is a good reason for their revolt). In this episode, a single mother raising her three children and her visiting sister deal with the consequences of activating the magic of a cursed grimoire.
“Uprising” is one of the most stylish films of the year, all the charm of “The Evil Dead” is here, a few moments will be etched in the memory forever: mysteriously directed by Lee Cronin (“Another”) I managed to make a painting suitable for both those who want something not too stressful and those who want something more drastic.
“Any way is good” (“Fair Game”)
It’s an erotic psycho-thriller (and feels like a real meat grinder) about Emily and Luke, two analysts at an investment firm who hide their relationship from their colleagues, even though they’ve already planned a wedding. The couple’s already difficult situation is further complicated when Emily receives the promotion Luke was counting on. Great duet from “Bridgerton” starring Phoebe Danevor and Alden Ehrenreich (“Solo: A Star Wars Story”).
John Wick: Chapter 4
The last (supposedly) and (definitely) best part of the great action series about a former hitman on the warpath. What turns out to be a crushingly short three-hour running time is not a movie, but a literal poem. Keanu Reeves shoots without missing a beat.

“May December”
Black comedy melodrama about a married couple with a criminally large age gap (but most of the time it leaves you deeply uncomfortable, as if you were watching a thriller): 20 years ago, when it was all just beginning, Gracie (Julianne Moore) was already a grown woman and Joe (Charles Melton from Riverdale)) – A teenager. Then the scandal swept the country, Gracie spent time in prison, and now they want to make a movie based on their story. Gracie should be played by TV star Elizabeth (Natalie Portman)Expecting this role to be a turning point in his career, Dr. He comes to visit Gracie and Joe to get to know them personally.

“The Boy and the Bird” (“Kimitachi wa Dō Ikiru ka”)
A film testament made by the great storyteller Hayao Miyazaki for his grandson and, in principle, for you and me. A great film by a great master (who, of course, changed his mind about retiring): the touching story of a boy who tries to survive after the death of his mother and finds himself in the middle of an incredible journey between worlds. and periods.

“Maestro Bernstein”
A biographical film about composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein, his marriage to actress Felicia Montealegre, and his painful self-acceptance. Great direction by Bradley Cooper, great acting by Bradley Cooper (fake nose – questionable, but okay), but the main star here is Felicia, played by Carey Mulligan. (“Promising Girl”).
“bottoms”
A tough and successful film about schoolgirls who organize a fight club for women in the best traditions of Chuck Palahniuk and David Fincher. “Shalom, Daddy!” An unexpected comeback was made in the youth comedy genre by the director of the movie. Emma Seligman and actresses Rachel Sennott (“Idol”) and Ayo Edebiri (“Bear”).
“Oppenheimer”
Biography of physicist Robert Oppenheimer, father of the atomic bomb that destroyed all faith in humanity. Cillian Murphy’s great role (“Peaky Blinders”), Christopher Nolan’s brilliant (no joke) directorial effort in the “come and see” genre.

“Those Who Still Remain”
The most tender movie of the year is a comedy-drama filled with the warm melancholy of the winter holidays. Paul Giamatti plays a grumpy professor tasked with looking after a handful of students staying at a boarding school during Christmas break. with one of them (Dominic Sessa’s incredible debut) the teacher begins a paradoxical friendship. It’s a movie where you have to be careful with your eyes and not hold back your tears.
“A Haunted in Venice”
The third and best part of the Kenneth Branagh series, starring Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot, a brilliant detective from the works of Agatha Christie. In the new film, the director and actor confidently enter the realm of mystical horror: this is the darkest, but at the same time the most fascinating picture of the cycle. Only in the painful landscape of a ruined Italian palace and with a Halloween mood does it turn out to be a kind of “Hound of Baskerville” from Soviet Sherlockiana.

“Priscilla: Elvis and Me”
The biographical drama about Priscilla Presley, wife of singer Elvis Presley, who caught Sofia Coppola’s eye when she was just 14 (and he was 24); Such a dual feature with “May December”. A sinister movie about pedophilia and grooming with an absolute triumph in casting: Cailee Spaeny’s spectacular transformations (“Mair of Easttown”, “Developers”) and the bottomless darkness in Jacob Elordi’s eyes (“Euphoria”) – Among the best acting performances of 2023.

American Zoetrope
“Past Lives”
A series about the reunion of childhood friends: Yeon Na, a Korean woman who immigrated to America, and her classmate Hae Sung, who stayed in her hometown. The heartbreaking film, based on the life of director Celine Song, is tempting to be called an instant classic, vying for a place alongside Wong Kar-wai’s “In the Mood for Love” and Sofia Coppola’s “Lost in Translation.”
“Salt burn”
Promising Young Woman is a whistling, squelching black comedy in which director Emirald Fennell is either doing Parasite in English or just having fun within the walls of a luxury estate. Barry Keoghan plays an Oxford student who gladly accepts an invitation to spend the summer at his fellow student’s mansion (another brutal bravo to Priscilla star Jacob Elordi).

Still Yacht
“Killers of the Flower Moon”
Martin Scorsese’s epic crime drama about the murders of Native Americans in Osage County, where oil gushed at one point, but it doesn’t end well. A scary movie about the worst manifestations of human nature; If faith in people still exists after Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon will finish the movie. A magnificent work by Lily Gladstone, who managed not only to disappear, but also to stand out against the background of Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.
