Streaming service Netflix sent the latest DVD in the mail. In this respect reports Hollywood Reporter.
“We sent out the first DVD in 1998. This morning is the last morning,” the company blog says.
The last disc the company sent was “True Grit” (2010), directed by Joel and Ethan Coen.
It was announced that the outdated service still had thousands of subscribers at the time of its closure.
Additionally, the streaming giant released a farewell video about the printing, shipping and future fate of DVDs.
In total, Netflix has distributed more than 5.2 billion discs since 1998. 40 million people subscribed to this service. The first disc the company delivered was for Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice. The company had 925 drives in total when the business started.
