Mai Meneses (Madrid, 1978), vocalist of the group daconte baby, He rose to fame in the early 2000s with songs like ‘Tenía tanto que darte’ or ‘Which star will it be’. However, he decided to retire from the music industry for five years, and during this time he did not stop thinking about returning to the stage. Already freed from various personal problems related to mental health and addictions, continuing his career from where he left off, he will introduce his new album ‘Casi Perfecto’ in 2019. Shabbat Festival (Car entry to Malaga) on Sunday, September 17. Also on the poster Damn Nerea and La La Loves You.
Nena Daconte’s new album ‘Casi Perfecto’ seems to be written in a hopeful style, what did you want to capture?
The album, like almost all the songs I’ve composed, talks about love and heartbreak. He talks a little bit about loneliness and the passage of time, but it’s true that there’s an optimistic point to his lyrics, especially the song I’ll Leave, which talks about a toxic relationship that seems like you can never escape. . There is a positive message that I say you need to look a little inside yourself and not be afraid of loneliness because in the end we always find a light that illuminates our way, our lives. What happens is that sometimes we don’t see it and hold on to situations or people that hurt us, partly out of fear of loneliness. The opposite is said in this song called ‘Me iré’; You have to jump in and dare, because after all, being alone isn’t that serious.
Does this new phase mean returning to the beginnings and the illusion of the first days?
Exactly the same. I wanted to continue the illusion that I had become interested in music. From there, I will see what I will do in the next albums.
After five years away from the stage, did you have to come to terms with music?
Music has always accompanied me. My recovery was more of a work of my self-esteem and understanding where my fears came from. You end up coming to the conclusion that concerts are a place to have a good time, and just like that’s what people come for, I want to have a good time and have that experience.
Is it difficult to combine success with care? sanity?
This is a difficult road. Success came to me when I was much younger and much less experienced. It can be difficult in these situations, but in the end, the important thing is to surround yourself with people who love you well and give you good advice, so that you allow the advice to be taken… In the end, you have to realize that in Truth there is nothing completely difficult. Everything is not that important.
What can Sabatik Festival audience expect from this return of Nena Daconte to the stage?
Now I am very happy with my job and I am very happy to be able to share it with people. Being a person who has stage fright and prevents it, I started to feel completely free on stage. I feel happy and grateful for sharing my songs. Concerts become a review of my entire discography. We do Nena Daconte classics and promote songs from the new album. We end with the song ‘I had so much to give you’, which is always a party for the public.
