Nicolo Laurent, president of Riot Games, said in a short interview with Chinese website Bilibili that the second season of the Arcane series, based on the League of Legends game, will not be released in 2023.
Emphasizing that three episodes of the second season were filmed, Laurent said, “We are progressing, but it is not ready yet.”
According to him, there are two reasons why the series won’t air in 2023: First, good quality takes more time, and second, they don’t have time. “To be honest, we didn’t know if the first season would be a success, so we didn’t start production on the second season. If I had been sure of that, of course I could have started the second season much earlier.”
The Arcane series has become one of the hits of 2021. It was also the first broadcast program to win an Emmy in the animation category. The events in Arcane revolve around brothers Jinx and Vi, champions of League of Legends who find themselves caught in the conflict between two cities named Zaun and Piltover.
