The Ukrainian documentary 20 Days in Mariupol, which earned the Oscar for Best Feature Documentary, was left out of the shortened international broadcast of the ceremony. This development was reported by the Ukrainian television channel Public. According to the channel’s site, the organizers did not include a mention of the film in the televised portion of the 96th Oscar ceremony.
Public, which has served as the sole broadcaster of the Oscars ceremony for the second consecutive year, had scheduled a condensed international version to air on Monday at 21:30 Moscow time. After receiving broadcast materials from the organizers, it became evident that the Ukrainian film was absent from that version.
The channel voiced its disappointment and chose to present the audience with the full, unedited ceremony, which had taken place the previous night, March 11. The film 20 Days in Mariupol, directed by Mstislav Chernov, had won the Oscar in the Best Documentary Film category, marking a historic milestone as the first Ukrainian movie to secure this prestigious honor.
In related sentiment, Renata Litvinova expressed frustration with the results of the 2024 Oscar ceremony.
