Fashion historian Alexander Vasiliev said he was familiar with fashion designer Paco Raban and will remember him as a wise and creative person. The French fashion designer died on February 3 at the age of 88. In an interview with socialbites.ca, Vasiliev admitted that the collection of funds includes about 10 rare models of this “original fashion designer”.
“One more fashion talent passed away today. Astonishing and unlike other Parisian fashion designers, Paco Raban was a Basque noble by birth. His mother, who was a communist, took her son to Stalinist Moscow in the 1950s, after which he mastered the Russian language. An architect at heart, Paco Raban saw in his models the dash of the future, futurism, multiplied by images of medieval Spanish metal chain mail. The fame of the fashion designer came to its creator in 1965, and Pierre Cardin and André Courrèges became his main rivals. Vasiliev said that his creations are remembered for their geometric shapes – chain mail and innovative dresses made of plastic, metal and wood.
According to the fashion historian, it was thanks to originality and innovation that Paco Raban became so popular and recognized all over the world.
“In the collection of my foundation, there are about 10 rare models of this original fashion designer, the author of 5 books on fashion and the reincarnation of the soul, and the perfumer. I knew Paco Raban personally in Paris and remember him as a wise, balanced and creative person. Coco Chanel called her “The Metalist”, it’s hard to sit in her clothes, but standing up was impressive. The name of this creator was greatly glorified by Jane Fonda with the film “Barbarella”, in which costumes and corsets were created according to the sketch of the fashion designer. “Paco Raban’s name will remain in the history of 20th century fashion, thanks to his originality and innovation.”
The French fashion designer was born in Spain in 1934. She presented her first collection in Paris in 1966. Raban became famous for clothing made from alternative materials, including plastic and metal. Movie stars like Audrey Hepburn, Jane Fonda, Brigitte Bardot, Elizabeth Taylor preferred to wear her clothes.
