Actress Angelina Jolie resigned from her position as Special Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which she has held for more than 20 years since 2012. This has been reported UNHCR website.
“After more than 20 years of dedicated work with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees for the rights and protection of forcibly displaced persons around the world, Angelina Jolie is leaving her post as UNHCR Special Envoy,” the statement said.
The organization announced that the actress would move on to “a broader range of humanitarian and human rights issues” without giving details.
“As one of the most influential supporters of refugee rights, Jolie will continue to work to build a more equal, just and inclusive international system,” UNHCR said.
It is noted that Jolie has worked with UNHCR since 2001, during which time she carried out more than 60 field missions, including in Yemen and Burkina Faso.
Jolie in April visit Lviv on its own initiative. The Hollywood actress was caught on camera in one of the city’s coffee shops. In the video, a movie star dressed in a gray sweatpants enters the establishment, signs autographs for a boss and waving to the others.
