“We have enough sea for many series.” Pavel Trubiner – Interview with Pavel Trubiner about the filming of “The Barents Sea” about the drama “The Barents Sea” and a possible sequel

– Where and during what period did the filming of the movie “Barents Sea” take place?

– They took place in different places – in Moscow, Kasimov, the Ryazan region and, of course, in Murmansk. Mostly in such a spring-summer period, which was not bad at all.

– Were there any noticeable differences between the production of the Black Sea pre-film and the shooting process?

— The biggest difference is the other locations. In Murmansk, of course, it is very beautiful. I think that’s the difference. Everything was more or less the same, except for the new director Oleg Fomin.

Was it cold in Murmansk?

— We shot there already in August, so luckily we were very lucky with the weather. For the most part, the weather was perfect. Maybe for a few days it was really cold in Murmansk and the rest of the time it was sunny and warm enough.

Did you work on really cold days?

– We had a scene with Kostya Milovanov, where we stood on the pier. There was a heavy rain, almost parallel to the ground. Despite the storm and the extreme cold, the scene had to be shot. But it turned out very well in the movie.

– The action of the series takes place in the same 1944 as in the Black Sea. What is the plot time between them? Is it known what the characters did between operations in the two seas?

– No, it was a little early in the Black Sea. There is about a year difference. The history they made is silent. Of course, they did exactly the same as in the movies – they served their homeland.

Have the main characters changed in any way in the new series?

– Of course there are changes – otherwise it would not be interesting to watch. Slightly different relationships, slightly different tasks. And so, in general, they are all one. Although the “Barents Sea” can be considered a separate film – those who have not seen the “Black Sea” will understand everything.

– Have you used stunt and substitute services?

– We had two fights with Igor Petrenko – we did not apply for stunt services there. Such scenes were staged by stunt coordinator Amur Gamaev, a very good friend of mine with whom I work a lot. In the frame, Igor and I did everything ourselves.

– Do you feel real fear when there are explosions and shootings on set? Or are you already used to not being real?

“Still, these explosions are real. Of course, those parts aren’t there, but they’re still dangerous. Tensions are always present, some kind of danger indicator works inside.

– Major Elena Soley (Ekaterina Vilkova) performs missions together with Sergey Saburov. What do you think of gender stereotypes like “a woman on board is in trouble” and others? Does the show debunk this myth?

– We are shore service, we work on land and we do not go to sea. Therefore, the phrase “a woman on board” does not fit here. During the Great Patriotic War and now there were a large number of heroines, who in some ways even surpassed men. Therefore, there is no gender difference.

– Is it planned to continue the series in another sea?

– Now let’s see how the audience perceives this part – and maybe there will be a sequel. We have enough sea, so I think it will be enough for many TV shows.

– On the site “Smotrim.ru” all episodes are broadcast simultaneously and gradually on the TV channel. Are you a fan of streaming all the episodes at once to watch in one gulp?

– I don’t know – these are the ideas of the channel. Of course, the audience has a desire to see everything at once. Some did just that, excitedly watching all eight episodes. However, when the audience digests everything, perhaps the gradual exit also has its own trick. And a lot and a lot, probably fine.

– You often play officer – did you want to be a soldier as a child?

— Yes, he also represented himself as a soldier. There were many options, but fate turned out to be such that I do not regret it.

– Do you have professional burnout – when you do not want to go to the shoot and you do it by force? Or is the acting business so rich and diverse that you don’t get bored?

Everyone has their own laziness. I’m also a pretty lazy person. There are times when you just want to do nothing but roll in. We are not robots.

— In September, Tatyana Ustinova told us about her passion for the film adaptation of the novel Fate by the Book of Changes, in which you played the main role. Do you communicate with the author? What does this rating mean to you?

This review means a lot. Tatyana either calls or writes, and her feedback is invaluable to me. When you get into the image that the author intended, it is very enjoyable and wonderful. I am so grateful to him for what happened to me.

– He is also very honest and directly calls some works “terrible”.

“I know that too, yes. No matter how valuable their good comments are.

– A few years ago, you enlisted the help of Nikolai Tsiskaridze to play a ballerina in the movie “The Fantasy of the White Nights”. Have these skills worked for you in life?

– Firstly, all graduates of theater universities have these skills in one way or another. There is a machine tool at the institute, and theater and film actors gain some simple skills. As for the collaboration with Nikolai Tsiskaridze, he helped us incredibly on set. Many thanks to him for this. Somewhere they wrote that he taught us some basics – this is not so, he does not have time for this.

— Mostly your characters are positive. Did you play antagonist? If the material is really good, are you ready to accept playing a disgusting character?

– I had to, I took on the roles of not very good people. If the material is really good and doesn’t hurt any of my principles why not. A bad character also needs to be able to play in order to leave some kind of mark on the memory.

You frequently post on social media. Do you communicate with the audience, do you read the comments?

– I am not the most active user of social networks, for me it is a bit of fun. I liked the photo – I sent it. I don’t give any speeches, but I read the comments. Of course, it’s great to see positive feedback about your work. Of course there are negative comments but not everyone likes it, that’s normal. Some people like this movie, some don’t.

– Can you tell us about the acting hockey team you are a member of? How often do you manage to train, taking into account filming and acting in the theater?

“We generally train three times a week. If I’m in Moscow, of course I try to visit them. Sport and physical fitness play a very important role for a player, so I try to play hockey whenever I can.

– You were blacklisted in Ukraine in 2020. Does this situation bother you?

– Status does not bother me in any way, I do not own real estate in Ukraine. And now we can’t all visit it. I love Ukraine very much, my ancestors are from Zaporozhye. Unfortunately, we were not able to get there until then.

– What did the acting job give you besides your professional development?

— Of my own free will, I have visited many places that I would never go to. Thanks to the shootings, I saw many beautiful places not only in our country, but also in the world. Russia in general is boundless in its beauty, it has many amazing and eye-catching places. I can’t separate one.

– What do you think about how the network compares you with actor Yegor Beroev?

– Nothing, okay. The comparison is good. I don’t know the similarities, it’s not my place to ask. Maybe yes, we have some common features.

From November 14, the TV channel “Russia 1” will broadcast the military drama “Barents Sea”, a continuation of the series “Black Sea”. Captain Sergei Saburov (Pavel Trubiner) and Major Elena Soley (Ekaterina Vilkova) are tasked with foiling an enemy plan to destroy a key object for the entire country. In an interview with socialbites.ca, Trubiner talked about filming in Murmansk during a storm, working with a stunt coordinator, playing in an acting hockey team and his attitude to comparisons with Yegor Beroev.
