Yandex Food and Market Delivery services, part of the broader Yandex ecosystem, are now accelerating orders from Vkusno. Beacons are being deployed inside partner locations to predict delivery times more accurately and get meals to customers even faster. This initiative was disclosed by Yandex Food’s press team.
The company explained that the devices communicate via radio signals with courier smartphones within roughly 20 meters, instantly notifying the restaurant when a courier is near, so the kitchen can prepare the order for immediate handoff.
By collecting data from a large volume of orders, Yandex Food and Grocery Delivery can compute average delivery times to restaurants and keep partner businesses informed with up-to-date progress insights.
As a result, restaurants gain precise visibility into courier arrival times and can stage ready meals for quick pickup, reducing waiting times and ensuring a smooth, on-time handoff for delivery.
Another benefit of the beacon system is its use of Bluetooth to pinpoint courier location even when GPS signals are weak or unstable, helping to maintain accurate tracking throughout the delivery process.
Yandex began pilot deployments in Vkusno i Tochka and several other restaurants last year. Early results indicated that couriers in participating locations received orders about twice as fast on average during the test period.
Additionally, the time from when a restaurant begins food preparation to delivery decreased by about 25 percent on average, underscoring the positive impact on overall throughput.
Yandex Food notes that both partner companies employ beacons whose prototypes were adapted by Yandex engineers for restaurant use. The devices are compact enough to be mounted discreetly, for example under counters, so they remain unobtrusive while performing essential timing and location tasks.
