On August 20, Wildberries completed an assessment of damaged inventory at its Elektrostal warehouse near Moscow and decided to compensate sellers with 13.6 million rubles. This information came to light through a message that editors at socialbites.ca obtained from the marketplace itself.
Compensation payments are scheduled to begin on September 11. The marketplace will include payment details in a weekly update covering the period from September 4 to September 10, ensuring sellers receive clear, ongoing information about the reimbursements.
That same day, a rainstorm caused damage to the roof of the Wildberries facility in Elektrostal. Water entered about 500 square meters of the building, although the warehouse’s total footprint is around 250,000 square meters. Staff were promptly evacuated from the affected section, and no injuries were reported. Restoration work has already commenced to secure the area and resume normal operations.
Prior to this incident, Evgeniy Tishkovets, a senior analyst at the Phobos meteorological center, noted that Moscow experienced heavy showers on Sunday, August 20. He observed that roughly one third of the month’s precipitation fell on that day. Forecasters highlighted that automatic weather stations in the capital and the Istra district, located to the northeast of Moscow, recorded as much as 28 millimeters of rainfall, which aligns with about 35 percent of the monthly norm, described as the maximum for the period. The report mentioned substantial accumulations, with rainfall intensities capable of delivering several liters of water per square meter in a single hour during peak downpours.
In a separate social media post that circulated widely, a woman described as a courageous cleaning worker—referred to by some as the “city’s savior”—was highlighted amid flood-related relief efforts in Tuapse. The post celebrated her acts of resilience and her role in helping communities cope with the disaster, reflecting the broader public response to severe weather events across the region.
