Regional retailers across the Russian Federation have agreed to voluntarily cap prices for a set of essential product categories in their stores. This commitment was announced in an update published by the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s official channels.

Officials note that retailers presented the proposal at a ministry meeting, emphasizing goods considered socially important. Previously, a price margin cap had already been implemented by large national chains, including notably the X5 Group and Magnit, signaling a broader move toward price stabilization in the market.

“Regional networks will participate in a voluntary framework that limits markups on staple items such as seasonal vegetables, sugar, bread, and dairy products that hold social significance”, the ministry stated. This approach aims to maintain affordability for consumers while ensuring a predictable supply of everyday essentials across the country.

Industry insiders acknowledge the pressure on meat and sausage prices as autumn approaches. A company executive with Myasnitsky Ryad indicated that the core challenge in meat product production at present is the availability and cost of raw meat, which can drive household expenses higher even as retailers seek to balance margins.

Earlier remarks suggested that store networks might be allowed greater flexibility in distributing affordable food items, enabling more widespread access to essential goods without compromising food safety and quality standards. The evolving policy landscape reflects ongoing efforts to align retail practices with consumer needs while maintaining a stable, competitive market.”
