Ukraine Seizes Russian Ammonia Assets and Deploys Proceeds for Defense

ARMA, the National Agency for the Identification, Tracking and Management of Assets from Corruption and Other Crimes, reports that confiscated Russian ammonia sold in Ukraine was valued at 1.32 billion hryvnia, roughly equivalent to 36 million dollars. The ammonia involved in these transfers was moved through channels established by national authorities.

The agency notes an additional 9.7 thousand tons of ammonia sold for 254 million hryvnia, about 6.9 million dollars. In total, five batches with an overall volume near 42,000 tons were sold under the program.

Money raised from these asset disposals is allocated to purchase bonds issued by Ukrainian authorities to support military needs and security expenditures.

Earlier coverage by Business. Novoye Vremya indicated that Kiev had confiscated ammonia produced by the Russian companies Togliattiazot and Minudobreniya, stored at the Odessa Port Factory, and placed the material up for auction.

It is noted that Togliattiazot halted the ammonia transit via the Togliatti-Odessa pipeline on February 24, 2022, a decision tied to broader sanctions and asset control measures affecting cross-border supply chains.

In March, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law authorizing the compulsory seizure of property rights belonging to the Russian Federation and its residents, reinforcing the government’s framework for asset recovery and utilization in support of national defense goals.
