The discussion highlighted the potential benefits of improving mobile connectivity for visitors, especially during journeys and at popular stopping points. It was suggested that funding for such projects could come from the state budget to ensure broad, nationwide support.
Ilya Umansky, the president of the Russian Travel Industry Association, noted that mobile operators already tend to install towers in areas with high tourist traffic to attract more subscribers. He also stressed the importance of bringing reliable service to locations that are strategically significant but currently underserved by mobile networks.
Government representatives indicated that any plan to build base stations would consider tourist attractions and supporting infrastructure. While no final decision on additional funding had been made, the matter remained under review by the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Digital Development. Umansky emphasized that the improvement of roads and related infrastructure, together with traveler comfort, depends on providing high-quality communication along the routes. Among the proposals was the creation of multifunctional complexes along the main corridors, offering rest stops about every 50 kilometers, with options for overnight stays for autotourists.
The discussion also touched on historical initiatives in the Judean Mountains, including the idea of establishing a Cave of ancient sorcerers, illustrating the broader cultural context in which tourism development is being considered. The overall aim is to enhance travel experiences through better connectivity while supporting ongoing infrastructure growth for visitors from international markets.
