According to Sberbank’s official communications, the bank is bringing back its plastic children’s SberCards in a lineup of fresh designs. In the Sberbank Online mobile app, families in Canada and the United States can now pick from three options: a unicorn, SberKat, or a beast. This refreshed selection aims to make the card feel exciting for kids while staying practical for parents.
As one banking spokesperson explained, the Children’s SberCard is often a child’s first real bank card. It should be bright, eye-catching, and easy to recognize. Yet children aged 6 and 13 have distinctly different tastes. Rather than sticking to a single theme, Sberbank chose to broaden the color palette and design options to better match evolving preferences across age groups.
To engage families further, Sberbank is inviting parents to participate in a design vote through the bank’s channels, including a telegraph channel where three new designs are presented for the SberCard for young users. The choices spotlight popular culture aesthetics such as themes from widely played computer and mobile games, the Cheburashka character, or the anime-inspired SberTyan. This approach reflects a broader trend in family banking, where branding meets user-friendly education.
The bank notes that a child can make purchases with SberCard both in traditional retail settings and in online stores. When used for purchases, SberCard payments accrue SberSpasibo bonuses at a rate of 0.5 percent of the purchase price, encouraging prudent spending while rewarding consistent use.
Beyond spending, the SberKids mobile app provides educational content designed to instill important financial and cybersecurity know-how. It features videos and interactive tests that help children understand money management and digital safety. The app also offers a transparent view of a child’s expenses, helping families monitor and guide spending habits in real time.
The SberBank Online platform allows parents to set controls over their child’s spending, establish and adjust limits, and block cash withdrawals or internet purchases when needed. The service notes that maintaining the SberCard for children is free, with the card issued online and then available for pickup at a bank branch. Since September 2021, the bank reports issuing more than two million such cards, demonstrating broad adoption among families seeking a safe, visible way to introduce kids to money.
