The Russian government moves to regulate foreign seed imports this autumn

The Ministry of Agriculture announced that Russia plans to implement restrictions on importing foreign seeds starting in October. Dmitry Patrushev, head of the ministry, shared the plan during the All-Russian Grain Forum. The information was reported by TASS.

Patrushev also stated that Russian grain exporters are prepared to adjust the market share of companies leaving the country. He emphasized Russia’s commitment to continuing grain shipments to its partners and to nations facing supply needs.

Earlier, former Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin approved a 10 billion rubles program. The funds, as stated by the government press service, will help cover part of the costs for grain producers across the regions.

The allocation will come from the federal budget and reach 65 Russian regions. Local authorities will then distribute the funds to agricultural producers, enabling them to cover up to half of the costs for producing and selling wheat, rye, barley, and corn. This initiative aims to bolster domestic farming and ensure steady grain supplies to both domestic and international partners. [Citation: Cabinet of Ministers press service]
