Russia sees rising interview invitations abroad amid mixed domestic job postings

In January through March 2023, Russians received 53 percent more interview invitations than in the first quarter of 2022, according to data cited by RBC from the hh.ru recruitment service. This uptick highlights a notable shift in the job market dynamics for Russian candidates during that period.

Statistics from hh.ru show that many Russians were called for interviews in neighboring markets, with Kazakhstan and Belarus standing out as the most common destinations. In Kazakhstan the pool of Russians’ CVs invited to interviews rose by 67 percent year over year, reaching 29.5 thousand. In Belarus the volume also moved, though in the opposite direction, showing a 15 percent decline to 20.5 thousand, yet the country still ranked second in the listing of invited applicants.

Beyond these two nations, Russians received interview invitations to pursue roles in Georgia, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. At the same time, opportunities increased for candidates in the United States, Türkiye, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates, indicating broader regional interest in Russian professionals during the period under review.

On February 20, hh.ru reported a decline in the number of open positions for investment analysts and brokers within Russia, noting a 20 percent drop in 2022 compared with 2021. The company also stated that it observed limited activity for certain roles, mentioning a scenario where there were two resumes for a single job-seeker applying for an investment analyst position. This juxtaposition suggests a mixed landscape: more Russians were invited abroad for interviews, while some domestic roles saw reduced postings and competition.
