Russia is weighing the construction of ports to facilitate the export of its products to several African nations, including Algeria, Egypt, Senegal, and Tanzania. This stance was shared by a senior official from the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade during an international trade event. The statement underscores Moscow’s interest in expanding its maritime infrastructure to support diversified outbound trade flows to Africa.

According to the official, multiple initiatives across the continent are slated for rapid implementation. One of the key concepts involves establishing ports designed to streamline the movement of Russian goods. Tanzania is highlighted as a potential site to establish a transit route entering Africa from the east, while Senegal is also considered a viable location given its substantial Russian cargo traffic.

In the northern sector, Algeria and Egypt are noted as priority points for attention and development. The material emphasizes that these locations would play a central role in facilitating logistics and commercial exchanges between Russia and North Africa.

Recent communications from Russia’s Federal Customs Service indicate a concerted push to augment the supply of goods to Africa. As a result, Africa’s share of Russia’s exports reportedly doubled by the end of 2023, rising from 2.5% in the previous year to nearly 5%.

Meanwhile, Kremlin officials have reiterated that Russia’s ties with Asian and African partners are progressing well, signaling a broader strategy of strengthening regional cooperation and trade routes across the continent.
