Rosneft has established a Competence Center dedicated to the study of carbonate hydrocarbon deposits, built on the company’s research and design division. The company’s press service announced this development.
The professional community behind the center includes more than 300 experts drawn from 22 mining enterprises and 9 corporate science institutes, as stated in the release.
The center is expected to create and implement innovative methods for assessing the properties of carbonate reservoirs. Its approach combines seismic facies analysis with petrophysical data interpretation and geological-hydrodynamic modelling to improve understanding of reservoir behavior and to sharpen exploration and development strategies.
Another aim of the new Competence Center is to enable rapid information exchange across teams and disciplines. By coordinating the use of cutting-edge technologies in exploration and field development, Rosneft anticipates a measurable increase in production from carbonate-bearing fields.
Rosneft already extracts hydrocarbons from carbonate formations at major assets in Eastern Siberia and in the Volga–Ural oil and gas region. The focus on in‑depth geological study and advanced technical methods reflects the substantial production potential of these deposits. Recoverable oil reserves in carbonate reservoirs are estimated at about 2.8 billion tonnes, representing roughly a fifth of the company’s total reserves.
In summary, the Competence Center positions Rosneft to leverage a broad network of specialists and cross-disciplinary expertise to enhance reservoir characterization, accelerate information flow, and support higher output from carbonate-dominated plays across key regions.
