The Russian government outlined a strategic plan to advance LNG equipment production, aiming for domestic technologies to account for eighty percent of the sector’s needs. This commitment emerged from a meeting where officials discussed the path toward enhanced LNG capacity within the country and the role of domestic innovations in supplying critical machinery.
According to the report, the Ministry of Energy, with backing from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, will craft a comprehensive roadmap. The intent is for the project to prioritize domestic solutions while aligning with global demand and market trends. The document emphasizes building a robust domestic base that can meet evolving sector requirements and reduce dependence on foreign equipment.
The document also notes that the authorities will assess both opportunities and risks tied to domestic production, keeping an eye on international demand and competitive dynamics. As mass production scales up, the plan requires directing corporate strategies toward the development and procurement of LNG equipment.
In September, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced during an operational meeting that the government would allocate two billion rubles to support the development of LNG production equipment. The funding is intended to kick-start several projects and provide partial financing for creating equipment suitable for medium and large-capacity facilities.
Earlier, Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov indicated that subsidies for LNG equipment development within Russia could enable the creation of initial prototypes by 2030, setting a clear milestone for domestic innovation and production readiness.
