iFly airline has adjusted its schedule for flights to Egypt that were delayed in Vnukovo, aligning with the Federal Air Transport Agency’s (FATA) instructions regarding routes over Syria. This update came through the company’s press office and was reported by TASS.

In a statement, the airline noted that on the evening of December 15, the Federal Air Transport Agency issued additional requirements. These steps are intended to ensure compliance with ICAO guidelines on the use of Syrian airspace for flights to Syria. The airline emphasized that it is carefully reviewing these ICAO recommendations to determine the exact steps needed to meet safety standards and to safeguard passenger and crew welfare.

iFly explained that the initial flight withdrawals or changes in their timetable stemmed from the agency’s cancellation of certain flight plans. The carrier confirmed that it is actively preparing the necessary documentation to satisfy FATA’s flight safety requirements. The process was postponed to December 16 as more time is needed to complete the required submissions and to verify all safety protocols align with current international standards.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of Russian travelers found themselves unable to depart for Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh due to eight hours of delays on several Egypt-bound flights. Passengers on these delayed departures were provided with vouchers for water and meals as a courtesy while the airline coordinated with partner services. Those who were scheduled to depart Egypt for return trips faced uncertainty and were advised to await further notices. Some travelers remained in hotels under supervision until new travel arrangements could be confirmed, illustrating how route adjustments can ripple through both local operations and international itineraries.

From a safety and operations perspective, the events highlight how national regulators and international aviation bodies influence cross-border routes. Airlines must adapt quickly to evolving requirements, document readiness, and the evolving risk assessments tied to airspace usage. For travelers, the situation underscores the importance of monitoring official updates, understanding potential delays, and recognizing how regulatory compliance can impact schedules and service levels. In such cases, carriers often work to minimize disruption by outlining alternative options, providing means of assistance, and maintaining transparent communication with customers as safety considerations take precedence over speed.
