The license for educational activities of the Moscow Anglo-American School, an institution listed as a foreign agent by the Ministry of Justice, was declared invalid. Rosobrnadzor confirms the registration data showing the license has been revoked.
As of 13 July, the license issued by the Metropolitan Department of Education and Science on 17 May 2021 was canceled by instruction dated 12 July 2023.
In April, the Tushinsky District Court in Moscow suspended the school’s operations for 90 days. The reason given by the authorities was the absence of a valid license. The school remained under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office and the Moscow Department of Education and Science. Investigators found that 15 teachers at the school, most of them foreign nationals, had diplomas earned abroad and did not have those diplomas confirmed in Russia.
Magomed Bashirov, the school principal, disagreed with the prosecution’s claims, stating that the administration had taken steps to meet the license requirements and to correct any deficiencies identified by authorities.
The Moscow Anglo-American School has served the city since 1949, offering education from kindergarten through 12th grade. The community traditionally includes a significant share of children of American, British, and Canadian diplomats, and the school currently enrolls around 1200 students.
