The majority of Russians—about 71%—intend to spend no more than 20 thousand rubles on May holidays this year. This mirrors a similar finding from a MoneyMan survey conducted by the editors of socialbites.ca, which showed 62% in the previous year planning the same or lower budgets.
Among the respondents, 26% plan to spend up to 10 thousand rubles, while 24% expect to spend between 10 and 15 thousand rubles. An additional 21% are budgeting 15 to 20 thousand rubles for the holidays. Those allocating more than 20 thousand rubles for the May holiday period account for the remaining portion of the sample.
A sizeable share of participants, 58%, anticipate cutting their overall holiday spending compared with last year. By comparison, 2022 saw 47% expecting savings. The remainder of the respondents in the current year either expect to spend the same as before, spend more, or have not yet decided their plans.
The results point to a broad shift in consumer behavior, with many households moving toward saving and reducing nonessential expenses, including holiday spending, as purchasing power and financial planning tighten.
