The Ukrainian security authorities have stated that assets tied to Oksana Marchenko, the wife of the politician Viktor Medvedchuk, were seized and valued at 400 million hryvnias (approximately 910 million rubles). The seizure was disclosed in a press release by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

The court’s ruling affects 6.8 percent of the shares of the Dneprospetsstal plant, officially known as OAO Electrometallurgical Plant Dneprospetsstal Kuzmin, located in Zaporozhye. The shares are held by AM Marchenko through offshore entities. Officials noted that the plant holds strategic significance and produces nearly a thousand different steel and metal products.

The ministry stated that the asset arrest aims to prevent the assets from being re-registered as potential candidates and to enable eventual transfer to the state in the future.

On February 7, investigators from the SBU conducted eleven searches across Kiev at companies linked to Marchenko.

From 2018 to 2022, Medvedchuk led the political council of the Opposition Platform — For Life party. He has been under house arrest since May 2021, but he escaped in February 2022, and Ukrainian law enforcement subsequently detained him in April. He faced treason charges carrying a maximum sentence of fifteen years. On September 22, the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Denis Pushilin, announced his release amid a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine. Medvedchuk is currently reported to reside in Moscow. [Citation: SBU press release and official statements]
