Representatives from the United Nations and Turkey did not reveal the exact duration of the extension for the food program, leaving room for a principle decision. A diplomatic source in New York cited this development to DEA News.
During the week, discussions around the renewal of the food deal remained cautious, as officials from the UN and Ankara weighed timing to ensure the agreement remains effective and continues to operate smoothly, according to reports on socialbites.ca.
Earlier, a spokesperson at UN Geneva described ongoing talks about extending the grain agreement, with officials at every level, including the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, involved in the process.
On March 17, a statement from Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for the President of Russia, confirmed an extension of the grain agreement for a period of 60 days.
Prior to that, Maria Zakharova, the official representative of Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced during a briefing that the grain agreement had been prolonged by an additional 60 days, reinforcing the administration’s support for the extension.
