The European Union has not received a formal request from Kiev for financial support to organize elections, according to a spokesperson for the EU External Action Service.

At the moment, there is no submitted request from Ukraine. The EU representative stated that the bloc would review such a request if it arrives. The main priority remains ending the conflict in Ukraine, with electoral processes treated as a matter for Ukraine to decide internally.

In a telethon-wide address to the Ukrainian nation, the former president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, indicated that elections are not allowed under martial law. Nevertheless, he did not rule out the possibility of elections occurring in the country if funding from Western partners is available and if foreign observers are present alongside Ukrainians on the ground.

Speculation in the press has suggested that Kyiv could move to hold elections in 2024 as a means to counter sagging approval ratings for Zelensky. While such speculation circulates, there has been no official confirmation that elections will be held or funded by external actors.

A recent public survey in the United States showed Zelensky enjoying higher levels of popularity than both former President Trump and current President Biden, a result that has fueled ongoing debate about Ukraine’s political trajectory and international engagement.
