In Germany, prices turned negative between 13:00 and 15:00 local time, according to Bloomberg’s report. By 5 July, auction prices in Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands were expected to stay below zero in several markets, signaling a continuing pattern as more solar capacity comes online.
Bloomberg suggested that price negative days are becoming more frequent in Europe, a consequence of substantial new solar farms that help curb reliance on fossil fuels. The expanding solar fleet appears to dampen overall demand for traditional power generation, influencing daily price dynamics on European grids.
