Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov reviewed the urgent repair efforts at the Beskudnikovo substation in Moscow and directed the drafting of a plan to enhance the reliability of Moscow’s electrical substations. This update comes from the ministry’s official telegram channel.

On January 4, a fire damaged the substation, leaving some residents in Moscow’s North-Eastern Administrative District without power and highlighting the vulnerability of the grid during peak demand and extreme weather conditions.

The Ministry of Energy confirmed that 10 kV equipment remains in operation and that power restoration to consumers is progressing as quickly as possible. Crews are prioritizing critical feeders and coordinating with district energy services to minimize disruption to essential services.

Shulginov conducted a working session at the site, where officials described ongoing investigations into the incident’s causes. The ministry emphasized that scientists and research centers would be involved in the investigation and in shaping an action plan to bolster the resilience of the Beskudnikovo substation as well as the city’s 500 kV substations within the Moscow energy system. This collaborative approach mirrors best practices observed in energy systems worldwide, where rapid diagnostics and independent technical review help prevent recurrence.

Earlier reports noted power outages affecting areas in the North and South Medvedkovo, Bibirevo, and Otradnoye districts, with heating units also shut down as a precaution. An operational headquarters was established to manage the response and coordinate recovery efforts across districts, ensuring a swift return to normal service while safeguarding public safety and essential infrastructure.

In a related update, heating supply to Klimovsk, located near Moscow, was slated to resume on the morning of January 7, as restoration crews worked to complete repairs and restore full thermal service for residents and businesses alike. The emphasis remains on restoring energy reliability through efficient dispatch, transparent communication with the public, and ongoing monitoring of grid performance to prevent future outages.
