In an update on regional production plans, the governor of the Samara region, Dmitry Azarov, announced that AvtoVAZ is pursuing a phased restart of several vehicle lines in the coming months, with the exception of the Lada Vesta. The statement was reported by DEA News and reflects an ongoing effort to revive domestic assembly operations amid shifting supply chains and localization targets.
Azarov added that more precise details would be provided by the close of the next week. He noted that different models have varying levels of localization, which affects their reliance on imported components. This complicates forecasting for the Lada Vesta, while work is intensifying on the restart plans for the rest of the lineup and the possible reopening of assembly facilities in the near term.
In related developments, Vladislav Shapsha, the former head of the Kaluga region, indicated that several foreign automakers are prepared to continue their activities in the area in the near future. His comments underscored a cautious optimism about ongoing manufacturing activity in Kaluga as companies reassess local supply conditions and investment strategies.
Shapsha emphasized that the timeline for resuming factory operations in Kaluga is difficult to pin down, describing the process as highly complex. He pointed to a combination of regulatory, logistical, and production challenges that must be navigated before full-scale reopening can be achieved, even as regional authorities and industry partners push for steady progress.
Earlier statements from AvtoVAZ leadership, including Maxim Sokolov, reinforced a forward-looking agenda. Sokolov outlined the intention to develop a modern platform within the next three to four years, signaling a strategic shift toward fresh engineering architectures and next-generation vehicle architectures aimed at sustaining competitiveness and meeting evolving market demands.
