Denis Manturov, deputy prime minister of the Russian Federation and head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, spoke in an interview with TASS about a state transfer that would involve FSUE NAMI, an enterprise affiliated with the ministry. He indicated that the former Toyota plant in St. Petersburg could come under the control of the Almaz-Antey concern by the end of 2023.

According to Manturov, the site is currently designated for NAMI’s subsidiary. However, after the design details have been finalized with Almaz-Antey, a corporate decision will be taken to relocate the site to the defense conglomerate.

“Yes, by the end of this year,” Manturov replied when asked about the timing of the transfer of the plant.

Earlier reports indicated that Almaz-Antey plans to begin producing L-type electric microcars at the former Toyota plant in St. Petersburg.

There was also information that the Obukhov Factory, part of the Almaz-Antey defense structure, assumed management of the old Toyota plant in St. Petersburg on April 27, according to a management company associated with the plant.
