Cheese Prices in Russia Set to Rise Through 2024

Starting in January 2024, cheese prices in Russia are expected to climb. For hard varieties such as Rossiysky and Gouda, the increase is projected to be about 10 percent, a shift noted by a Telegram channel report.

Cheese producer Oleg Sirota points to higher costs in logistics and ingredients as the main drivers behind the price rise. He explains that both Russian-sourced materials and imported components are affected, with sanctions and logistical bottlenecks limiting supply.

According to the expert, the price trajectory shows a clear pattern. In 2022, a kilogram of hard cheese was around 650–700 rubles. By late 2023, the price had risen to roughly 800 rubles, and costs could reach 850–900 rubles per kilogram by mid-2024.

Imported varieties such as Parmesan and Camembert could see further increases. Alreadypriced near 2,000 rubles per kilogram, these cheeses are forecast to rise by about 15 percent by mid-2024, given current market pressures.

Oleg Sirota also notes that a popular cheese assortment containing ten varieties is now roughly 500 rubles. He predicts that before the new year, this selection could climb to about 600 rubles as demand remains steady while supply tightens.

Looking ahead, the expert says that even a 10–15 percent price uptick remains an optimistic scenario under the present conditions. He warns that cheese prices in Russia are likely to continue climbing into 2024 as costs stay elevated and supply chains adapt to ongoing challenges.

As the dairy market wanders through these shifts, observers in other regions note similar trends, though with different pace and specifics. Market watchers emphasize the role of international logistics, raw materials, and sanctions in shaping cheese affordability for households and foodservice alike.

In related notes, analysts have discussed how fruit prices may move in parallel with dairy costs in Russia, underscoring broader inflationary pressures that affect everyday groceries for consumers in the country and neighbors watching from abroad.
