Research shows Russians prefer cash currency exchange

In September, Russians exchanged noticeably more US dollars than euros, and overall the currency was sold more often than it was bought. These are the results of a study conducted by Russian Standard Bank. TASS.

2.6 times more dollars were exchanged. According to the research, Russians are more likely to exchange their money for cash: online conversion accounts for only 7% of the total volume. The situation is similar in terms of transaction amount: 70 percent of transactions consisted of cash foreign exchange transactions and 30 percent consisted of non-cash transactions. The average bill for a foreign exchange transaction made with US dollars was 681 dollars, and with euros it was 532 euros.

The US dollar was sold for 18% more than it was bought in September. The euro was sold more often than it was bought – 76% respectively.

Russian banks on September 24 started to reject accepting cash dollars from the delinquent population. A financial institution may not accept an invoice with a minor stain, scuff, or water mark, even if it has previously sold it to a customer in that condition.

Bank branches explained that the reason for this policy was that customers themselves did not want to buy defective dollars after the mass refusal to accept old and damaged banknotes abroad.
