A reasonable amount of scholarships at Russian universities, taking into account inflation for 2024, is 50-60 thousand rubles. This opinion was expressed by Andrey Loboda, economist and communications director at BitRiver, in a conversation with socialbites.ca.
“Now state-supported students receive an average of 3,000 to 5,000 rubles per month. It is clear that it is impossible to compare with scholarships, which were in the range of 40-50 rubles even at the end of the Soviet Union. Moreover, in sectors of the economy that need more active development in the context of increasing global competition, for example, future IT specialists, with good academic performance, increased scholarships of 70,000 rubles can be paid,” the economist noted.
The expert stressed that higher education in Russia should be accessible, free and with high scholarships that will outpace inflation. Loboda explained that this should not only be high, but also constantly indexed.
According to him, in order to improve the quality and competitiveness of Russia’s human capital, primary higher education should be made free for all Russian citizens. The economist added that free higher education is not available to most citizens.
